Oh dear. The Patriot Nurse thing is dragging on and on and I am beginning to believe it’s all my fault. Her supporters, in search of someone to slag off for her coming up against opposition and for her employers knowing of her You Tubings, unable to get past the first Google search that isn’t a direct link to her videos or site are focussing all their self-righteous indignation over at Shot of Prevention.
Now, lets make a few things clear. Yes, Rachel Greene was named on this post on the marvellous Shot of Prevention but there were plenty of posts on the Lisa Ross Facebook page (now all gone, of course) and elsewhere asking outright if Rachel Greene was the nurse of the videos or a mere doppleganger. Shot of Prevention only reported internet speculation. Anyone with access to Whois and Google could have got this far. I did.
As well as reporting the Patriot Nurse’s alleged identity, Shot of Prevention went on, as I did in my original post on the Patriot Nurse, to publish a point by point refutation of each of her statements by a Canadian Nurse. Now, blog Autism Raw Data decided to post a point by point refutation of Canadian Nurse’s refutation. To be fair, it has the patina of science, is well written and seems well argued until…until…until you look at the studies it cites. At this point I have to hand over to commenter “Jon” who saved me an awful lot of work that I wish I hadn’t already started. I don’t have the expertise he clearly possesses or his eloquence. His comments are a point by point refutation of the refutation’s refutation…are you still following? Here are the highlights (ARD = Autism Raw Data) :
ARD: Although methyl mercury (tuna fish) and ethyl mercury (vaccines) are not molecularly similar they are compared to each other by our health authorities, scientist and researchers. This professional body finds them to be similar enough to not study the toxic threshold of ethyl mercury and only go off what we know regarding methyl mercury.”
JON: That is simply NOT TRUE! There have been multiple studies that demonstrate that ethylmercury and methylmercury are NOT comparable and do NOT possess identical toxicities. That would by like saying “ethanol and methanol are pretty much the same thing”. This is misinformation.
ARD: Cell-mediated immunity is activated by vaccination but we don’t measure the macrophages, natural killer cells, cytotoxic T-lymphocytes that we know in an over abundance will cause encephalopathy
JON: That’s actually not true. Humoral immunity is induced by vaccination, which is why we measure antibodies to determine the immune response to a vaccine. I would also question your logic that “an over abundance will cause encephalopathy.”: how many leukemia and lymphoma patients have encephalopathy? According to your argument/logic, most of them should.
A new commentor, Heather, then suggests that Jon, by the very mention of leukemia is veering away from the topic at hand to which Jon’s response is:
…they were examples of an over abundance of immune cells. Your argument is that an over abundance of immune cells, regardless of the reason, will result in encephalopathy. These diseases are a perfect way to test you argument.
Go on Jon!
Autism Raw Data gets in a tizz about Canadian Nurse, that she is protecting her identity, bemoaning that, “the majority of the article [is handed] over to an anonymous Canadian nurse and lists her/his credentials that we cannot check.” Seriously? This blog is supporting a woman, the Partriot nurse, whose attempts at hiding her identity were piss poor at best then vilifies those (me), for trying to substantiate her claims that she holds such qualifications (in spite of her evinced poor grasp of the fundamentals of chemistry) and for publishing the words of a nurse whose credentials I HAVE checked.
But, you know what? Autism Raw Data defines itself as “pro-vaccine choice” site. In my mind, at least, choice equals balance. So, where is the choice to view data that supports vaccination on this site? You have to seek that out from commenters. Where is the information about the havoc a vaccine preventible illness can wreak? No effort is made on this “pro-vaccine choice” site to balance the so-called arguement. None is made here either but I don’t pay lip service to “choice” or “balance”. At least here you know (or if you didn’t you will now) what you’re getting – a mother with a fully vaccinated autistic child who has come to the conclusion that vaccines are, for all but a very few who receive them safe and effective. I do not think they are perfectly safe nor 100% effective but no evidence has convinced me that the risk of leaving my child unvaccinated is an acceptible one. Autism is not a vaccine injury. It is not an injury at all.
